Theme: “Houses and Flats for Sale and Rent”
Aims and objectives: to use the unit vocabulary through speech exercises; to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills on the theme; to train students’ memory; to bring up love to nature.
Materials and visual aids: word-square cards, pictures of nature and houses; shanyrak( as a symbol of a house); cards with “false/true” tasks, microphones, a tape-recorder, a video-set.
Procedure of the lesson.
I. Organizing moment: Greeting. T together with the CL “I am at school. I am at my English lesson. My head is thinking clearly. I’m ready to learn and I want to learn”
T- Our theme is “The Houses for Sale and Rent”. I think you have already guessed that we’ll speak about our homes and not only about our flats where we eat, sleep and live. Do you know any proverbs concerning our theme?
S1- East or West home is best.
S2- There is no place like home.
T- Can you give Russian equivalents?
S3- В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше.
T- Do you know any Kazakh proverbs with the same meaning?
S4- ….
S5-…..
II. Lexical drill. T- Good. Now let’s repeat some words on the theme “Flats and Houses”. Task 1: Look at the word-square and find the names of the rooms.
III. Speaking warm-up ( T- Cl)
- Do you live in a house or in a flat?
- How many rooms are there in your flat/ house?
- Do you want to change you room?
- What rooms do you like best of all? Why? Etc.
IV.T.- Today I offer you to speak about houses and flats not as pupils of the 6th grade, but as designers, agents selling flats, buyers, teachers, journalists and ecologists.
T.- Imagine you are designers. What are you going to put into this room to make it more comfortable, modern, convenient and nice ?
S.- I’m going to put an additional table.
S1.- I’m going to put a computer on this table. Etc.
T.- ( используется интерактивная доска для выполнения «дизайнерских работ») We have done all these actions. Is this room nice now? What is this room like now?
S3.- It is more convenient.
S4.- It’s nicer and more modern. Etc.
V. Project- gallery. T.- Now , you’ll be agents, selling a flat or a house. Have you ever sold or rent a flat? I hope not. Let’s do it now. (Students represent their advertisement projects S1-Sn)
T.- Now , dear buyers, what house would you like to buy and why?
( S1-Sn. Tell others what they want to buy and why)
VI.T.- Now you are going to England. Planning to make a trip, you come across useful information. Open your books at p.155, Ex5. Let’s read it. (Cl. Read sentence by sentence)
T.- You are teachers from Kazakhstan and you are going to visit England in July for two weeks with a group of students: 6 girls and 4 boys. You want to get more information.
(Students write letters for getting the information about the rooms for rent in the Buckley House hostel and then make a gallery workshop)
VII.T.- I offer you to be journalists and interview your classmates about advantages and disadvantages of living in a city or in a village
(Interviewing S1-Sn. Watching a video fragment – any video about environmental pollution - Give reasons.)
VIII. T.- you are ecologists now. Look at this picture. Do you agree with the words “The World has become a Global Village Where We Live” Can we compare our homes with nature? Are they alike? What must we do in order to live a long and happy life in our common house nature? Must we keep our houses tidy? Must we protect our nature? ( S1-Sn.- give own opinions and prove them)
IX. You are ecologists again. Listen to the text. Try to understand it. Then you’ll work with “false/true” cards ( Listening task “ Crowding”)
X. Conclusion. T.- I want to ask you, do you know , what is the symbol of Kazakh house?
Cl.- Shanyrak
T.- Please pass this symbol to each other and wish something ( Ex.: Be happy, healthy and wealthy…)
T.- You worked very actively today. I thank everybody for nice work
