Методическая разработка урока Hogmanay
Урок английского языка на тему «Hogmanay», преследующий цель развития письменных навыков, а именно - описание событий – проходит в 9 классе по УМК "Spotlight-9” авторов Ю.Е. Ваулина, И. Эванс, Д. Дули, О.Е. Подоляко. Разработка урока полностью составлена на английском языке. Главное место на уроке занимает работа с учебником, где представлен основной материал урока. На уроке выстраивается четкая линия работы по составлению плана письменной речи на основе текста "Hogmanay”. Методически грамотно подобранные упражнения учат детей, как придать речи больше яркости. Кроме того, на уроке присутствуют элементы развития чтения, аудирования. Коммуникационный компонент сопровождает урок с начала до конца. Все этапы урока дозированы во времени. Ясно прослеживается реализация образовательной, развивающей, воспитательной цели. Использование современных технологий – фрагменты из youtube, презентация - в качестве иллюстрирования урока, для эмоциональной поддержки, для решения обучающихся задач заслуживает особого внимания. Все этапы урока соблюдаются и соответствуют требованиям ФГОС.

Stepanova Chadukassinskaya main school Krasnoarmeysky region, Chuvashia, Russia Topic: Hogmanay Objectives Communication : making speech or story telling more vivid and lively Reading: reading for comprehension and understanding of the structure of a descriptive story Writing: a descriptive article of an event Listening comprehension: finding out some new information and understanding when asking questions to reply correctly Introduction: Teacher: Nice to meet you, dear boys and girls! Hope you are in a good mood today, aren’t you? Well, I’d like to bring a little bit more cheer into your moods, don’t you mind? Your task is to watch a piece of youtube video and then answer some questions. Ok? (demonstrating the new year events from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYKjggdS-yY ) 4 minutes Teacher (After watching a video): Sure you have guessed the event happening in the video. People celebrate New Year coming. My questions: 1. What country welcomes New Year? How did you guess it? 2. How do people feel? 3. What are their favorite activities these festive days? 4. How do you think what the Scotts do expect from the coming year? 5. Would you like to be in Scotland during this holiday? Why and why not? Expected answers: 1. Scotland welcomes New Year. I noticed the name of the capital of Scotland on the video. 2. They feel happy and excited. 3. They are on the streets and sing, dance together and enjoy different festive attractions. 4. They may expect happiness, success, good luck, love… 5. I’d like to celebrate New Year with the Scotts. It will be fun. 4minutes+3 minutes=7 minutes Teacher: OK. Now, I’d like you to write a tiny dictation but I will not dictate I will spell the only word and your task is to catch the this word. What will you have got? Let’s start! H-O-G-M-A-N-A-Y Tell me please what have you got? Yes, it’s Hogmanay. Who can tell me about Hogmanay? What does it mean? They find the headings to the paragraphs. The Answer key: 1C 2D 3B 4A Here is the text: 1. In Scotland, the New year’s Eve celebration is called Hogmanay which means ‘new morning’ in Celtic. It is surely the most exciting celebration of the year. 2. Preparations for the celebrations start early on December 31st. People clean their houses and throw out old unwanted things. They also bake special shotbread biscuits and a rich fruitcake called ‘Black Bun’, to share with family and friends on the big day. 3. On the night of Hogmanay here are live concerts and fabulous carnivals in the streets of all Scottish towns. A lot of excited people get dressed up in colouful costumes. In some cities there is also a long torchlight procession through the streets that crowds watch excitedly. As soon as the bells chime twelve, everyone kisses and heartily wishes each other a Happy New Year. Then people join hands and proudly sing the traditional song ‘Auld Lang Syne’.After that, there is a stunning fireworks display which is the icing on the cake. On the 1st January people visit friends and neighbours to wish them luck for the New Year. 4. Hogmanay is certainly a great celebration. People feel happy to be with friends and family and look forward to a good year full of success’). Teacher: Well, the text will help you what activities the Scotts do these festive days. Now it’s high time to discuss description skills. To make a description more vivid, interesting and lively, the author uses a variety of descriptive adjectives and adverbs. For example, …crowds watch excitedly, a stunning fireworks display (from the text). Can you find some more examples from the text? Expected answers: live concerts, fabulous carnivals, excited people, colourful costumes, watch excitedly, heartily wishes, proudly sing, traditional song, stunning fireworks display, great celebration 12minutes+3 minutes=15 minutes Teacher: Great! We see, the text "Hogmanay” is a descriptive article. (the teacher presents The descriptive article on the board from Power Point Presentation) Well, What does it describe, a person or an event? (Expected answer: He describes an event) What tense is used to describe the event? (Expected answer: Present simple is used) Let’s think, what does the story include firstly? (Expected answers: the name, the place where this event takes place, and the reason why we celebrate it) OK! All this descriptive moment is considered to be named an introduction. (Expected answer: We can describe the activities that happen before the event (preparations for the event) and then the actual event. (Expected answer: peoples’ feelings or any other comments). It is a conclusion (The Teacher presents A Conclusion on the board from Power Point Presentation) What have we got? A plan for a descriptive article which consists of … (students go on reading together) an introduction, a main body, a conclusion . (the final slide on the board look like this: A descriptive event: 1) an introduction (the name, the place, the reason ) 2) a main body (the activities before the event and the actual event) 3) a conclusion (peoples’ feelings or any other comments) 15minutes+5 minutes=20 minutes By the way, who can name the traditional song sang on Hogmanay? (Students look for it in the text. Expected answer: Auld lang syne ) I wish you to show how it is sung by kids and offer to sing it together with them. Come on! Students stand up, stand in a line joining hands crossing them as the kids on the video do. It will be a good PE break during the lesson.
